Our Bakery

Founded in 1967 as the West Baking Company, New Horizons Baking Company came under the leadership of Tilmon F. (Tim) Brown in 1995. One of the first changes he made as CEO was closing the general office in Maumee, OH and moving the corporate headquarters to the Norwalk facility. He also made the decision to reinvest in the business with the goal of improving both the quality of the products, and the quality of life for employees of New Horizons. 

In 2008, Genesis Baking Company, a division of New Horizons, was formed with the intentions of expanding our business opportunities. With the addition of new high capacity machinery, the Norwalk bakery was upgraded to a state of the art facility in 2011. 

As a result of increased innovations and growth, New Horizons and Genesis currently serve over 2,000 quick service restaurants across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Western Pennsylvania as well as national retail and sandwich makers. 

A member of the Northern Ohio Minority Business Council, New Horizons Baking Company does not want to be known only as a Minority Owned Business but as strong, growing, ethically sound and profitable business managed with sound judgement, integrity and honesty.

Trina Bediako

CEO NH Acquisition Corporation

As CEO of New Horizons Baking Co, I have an incredible obligation to direct and motivate an
amazing team of leaders. My family has owned this business for over 25 years. I am a second generation CEO and I have young adult children that work for the business and have the option to continue the legacy.


We produce RTE food – Ready to Eat. With that comes the responsibility to follow superior quality standards and requirements. We are SQF Level 3 Certified. We are audited several times annually by various customers. We produce for several Iconic Brand customers and take the trust they’ve put in us very seriously. We operate several high speed production lines in multiple facilities. Our processes
are automated to minimize the complexity and allow us to focus on innovation. Our employees make it all happen each and every day.


My goals include providing quality product and appropriate care for our customers, a commitment supporting the communities we operate in, achieving record sales, executing sustainable grow opportunities and consistently building on a culture that reflects our business model and workforce needs. I am proud of my Team, I am proud of the growth and development of our business over several
years, and I am excited about all that the future holds.

Michael Porter

President & Chief Operating Officer 

He is a graduate of the American Institute of Baking (AIB) resident course in Manhattan, Kansas. Mike also studied Business Administration at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Mike has a unique combination of Operational and Sales leadership, along with the ability to build long-lasting customer relationships, a skill set that has been highly beneficial in his career path.
 

Mike has also served in numerous baking industry associations throughout, including the American Society of Baking (ASB), American Bakers Association (ABA), and Bakery Equipment Manufacturing & Allieds (BEMA).


Mike Porter has devoted his life to the baking industry. He began his baking career during his teenage years at his family-owned/operated full-line scratch store-front Bakery in Shelby, Ohio. Mike previously joined the staff at New Horizons Baking Company in 1997 as a Production Supervisor fresh out of his AIB course. Within his 20-year career with New Horizons, Mike achieved success in Operations, Quality and Sales.

Timon F. (Tim) Brown

Chairman of the Board 

Tilmon “Tim” Brown has been partner, president, and chief executive officer of New Horizons Baking Company
since 1995. Prior to that, he was the corporate vice president and director of sales for Continental Baking Company, where he worked for almost 30 years.

 

New Horizons Baking Company is a major supplier of restaurant baked goods. Founded as West Banking Company in 1967, it was renamed New Horizons Baking Company in 1986. This privately owned firm produces more than 2 million buns, English muffins, and other baked goods daily for McDonald’s restaurants throughout Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. New Horizons employs 260 people at its plants in Norwalk, Ohio and Fremont, Indiana, and ranks as #72 in Black Enterprise magazine’s Industrial and
Service category for 2008.
 
Mr. Brown began his employment as a route salesman and moved up to supervisor, sales manager, general manager, regional sales manager, regional vice president, corporate vice president, and corporate vice president and director of sales at Continental Baking Company.
 
Mr. Brown has a Bachelor of Science degree in business and sales administration from the University of Buffalo. He is a native of Buffalo, New York.
 
Mr. Brown is a member of the McDonald’s Bakery Council and McDonald’s Supplier Advisory Council. He is a Director on the Board of the Fourth District Federal Reserve Bank Of Cleveland, a member of the Advisory Board of the Ashland Theological Seminary, The Leadership Committee of the Taussig Cancer Institute of the Cleveland Clinic, Secretary of the Northeast Ohio Ronald McDonald House, and he sits on the Norwalk Economic Development Council. He was named 2008 Ernst  & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
